Top-roping at Sugarloaf

This is a casual day at the crag - some top-roping, some fun and games, and possibly some beer afterwards. If you haven't climbed outside before, this is a good day to try it. Where to meet I can drive one carpool from Shady Grove metro station, which will leave at 9am, and get to Sugarloaf about 9:30. Meet at the Kiss-and-ride lot on the east side of the station (if you're coming from the train, turn right after going through the card-reader gates). If that carpool isn't convenient, you can meet us at the mountain. There's directions here. Required knowledge and equipment
- You should know how to belay and climb (ie from the gym), but outdoor experience isn't necessary.
- Climbing harness, shoes, etc.
- Lunch or snacks
- Water - at least 2 liters
If you have a climbing rope or other gear, post what you've got. The more ropes we have, the more people we can accommodate. Meetup process I have one climbing rope, so I'm setting the group size to 4 people initially. As more people with ropes RSVP, I'll move people off the wait list. Bringing a climbing rope and top-rope anchor setup will get you an automatic spot. Max group size will be around 12. The fee here is to defer the Meetup site costs, not for guide services. I'm not a guide, and everyone is responsible for their own safety. Feel free to ask questions about anything.

It was a beautiful day to climb--first time for me at Sugarloaf and I was surprised by the number of possible routes and rock faces there were on the mountain. So glad the 'meet up' gave me the opportunity to explore the routes on Boy Scout Ledges. Tim was a great organizer and an awesome climber. We all had plenty of opportunities to climb a variety of routes with varying difficulty levels. It was also a great opportunity to meet other climbers that I hope we can connect again at some other outdoor climbing spots.

I've never been to Sugarloaf Mountain. I don't know which of the four parking lots you all wanted to meet at...Main Entrance/East View/West View/Potomac Overlook? I'm not sure which one is closer to where we are going to be climbing. Also, I'm going to be driving up from Woodbridge, VA so if anyone needs a ride please feel free to let me know.
