Hey Rockclimbing meetup! I’m taking a couple of girlfriends who are new to climbing to Glen Cliffs on Sunday. It’s 30 mins from SD with a 15 minute approach (much like Mission Gorge), and it’s friction face-climbing with some 4 and 5 star rated climbs. I was going to set up top ropes on 5.5’s to 5.7s for them to try and was wondering if anyone who wouldn’t mind a mellow day but can give a lead belay would like to come along? Otherwise I imagine I’ll be free-soloing this stuff. ^_^

There are also EXCELLENT 5.9’s to 5.10c’s there (4 star rated climbs), so if you’re interested, we can give those a go as well. :)

What time are you heading out there? I might be able to make it for the morning.

Sunday I'm off work around 10:00am, how do you get to Glen Cliffs? I can stay for a couple of hours.

I was going to leave at 12.30pm and make it a half day. It's very convenient, just an hour from SD from door to base of climb (I-8 east, off on Sunrise Highway and turn right, about a mile until you get to a border checkpoint station, park just past it at mile marker 8 and the approach is right there on your right).

If people can only do morning though, we can go earlier...

Hey Angela,
The last time I went out there when it was this hot the rock was cooking. Picture the film clip of the lizard on the hot sand that keeps lifting it's feet so they won't burn. That was me. If you go early enough, you'll get a few laps in, but by noon..fahget about it!!

Looks like it's going to get up to 100 degrees out there.
That's a little too hot for me.
Might be best to wait for cooler weather.

I was with Jerry that day.. it was the first time I understood what heat exhaustion just might feel like... it was BRUTAL!

That's the first time I had seen 'white as a sheet' in person. Ha

Ok, ok I'm convinced. More from not having someone who can give me a lead belay and teach my friends than from the heat. More worried about broken bones and possible death, but heatstroke doesn't sound pleasant, either. We'll go on a cooler day. :)

I'm glad to see you called this off Angela.

As a medical side note... Heatstroke is not pleasant. It can and will kill a person if its not taken care of immediately. wink
