Ok, I’m finally giving in and accepting that to build up my wimpy upper body, I’m going to have to do indoor climbing. To that end, Vertical Hold is waiving membership initiation fees during the month of October. Does anyone want to sign on the same time I do and get a “couples” rate? (no dating me is necessary). Then it would be $45/mo instead of $55 for the regular individual.
By end of Oct is the timeline I’m looking at if anyone was also considering a VH membership, now that it’s getting cold and dark earlier. I still think headlamps, wool clothing and Santee is doable, but Santee isn’t helping me be less humiliated on overhangs. Thanks, Angela |

I was just there tonight, and plan on joining, but I get the military discount which amounts to the same. But if you ever want to climb sometime let me know!

I'm personally not sure wether or not to sign up for the VH membership during the discount, or the Solid Rock "Rock Climbers of San Diego" discount. The latter is $35/month and no initiation fee, which is basically the same as Solid Rocks couple offer, except no initiation fee.
I've climed at VH two times, it's an impressive gym, and I'm gonna check out SR this weekend, probably. Just my 2 cents. :-) |

You could just go bouldering a lot. Buy a hang board and rock rings for your place to train on and save your money till the new climbing gym opens in about 5-6 months, it isn't just a climbing gym either... check out what they have to offer...Mesa Rim

Cool Frankie! Thanks for posting! I'd heard of a new gym but never saw a link or more details. I signed up for VH yesterday, but it's just a 60 day notice to cancel. :)

Mesa Rim isn't opening for a while. April 210, I think. I heard a little birdie say that BEFORE they open to teh general public, they are giving us kick ass RCSD people a preview!
(Is this how rumors get started?!) |

It's true we are opening a new gym in the second week of April 2010 and even offering very inexpensive membership rates to those who sign up from February to opening day in April. If you have any questions about the gym post them on the site and I will answer as soon as I see it. http://www.mesarim.co...

Cool! What's the early membership rate? (you knew that Q would come out...)

My apologies for taking so long to reply to this one, I wanted to wait until we had nailed down pricing a little better. Introductory rates will be what we are calling market rates, another words an average of what other local gyms are charging. The plan now is to end the introductory rates 30 days after opening or when we have sold 200 memberships. That rate will be good for the lifetime of that membership. After the end of the introductory period our prices will go up a bit.
Do keep in mind that we will have a sauna in the locker rooms, weights, cardio equipment, free wi-fi and the membership will come with other perks that we will mention on our site as we near opening date. Which at this point looks like mid to late April 2010. |
